Both Iran and the United States claim that each other violated the memorandum of understanding that they signed in June to end the conflict revolving around the issue of Tehran dropping its nuclear weapon programme and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Washington must meet conditions on the strait in order for shipping to resume in the waterway while US President Donald Trump said the US naval blockade against all ships entering and leaving Iranian ports is so successful that he would soon declare the strait a “US territory”.
